The trip to Budapest- Hungary would be incomplete without having visited the Szechenyi Thermal Bath. This is the biggest and most popular of all the thermal baths in Budapest.
Getting to the Baths was not a problem, the Metro line stops right in the city park and then it’s a short walk to the baths. The building of the spa looks like an architectural monument. It’s the biggest spa in Europe. A must see with 3 outdoor huge pools. Two whirlpools, and including the indoor ones it has 18 pools in total in its complex.
We visited this place in March, so it was an early spring. The weather was pretty colder in the evening.
After the long day tour of the city we reached this place at around 4 pm in the evening and found the baths to be pleasant and intriguing.
Initially I was bit hesitant to go to the baths with so many of people together in the pool, but little later I was overwhelmed by the strangeness of it all.
The cold weather outside and the hot water of the pool, gave no reason to come out of the pool any quicker. The cold weather created thick cloud of steam over the outdoor pools. The place gets little romantic with the imagination of feeling like you are the cupid in between the steam clouds.
We tried some of the indoor pools and also sauna- which almost smelt like a rotten egg.
Honestly it’s more fun in a heated outdoor pool.
I found the place well organized, with provision of locker facility and Cabin facility (small personal room) for keeping of belongings.
The entry ticket is not cheaper in comparison to average places with thermal bath; after all you don’t come to Budapest quite often. It’s worth the experience I would say.
The place is huge and goes on for miles and the outside pools are insane!!
During weekends and some special days, the outdoor pool area gets converted into Disco heaven.
With music, dance, vodka and largest pool it’s a great atmosphere for any pool party.
The pool party here is known by name Sparty.
I guess the people would be doing floating steps to music and not dancing steps 😉
I look forward to attend one of such Sparty in Budapest. I like to keep this excuse in mind to plan another trip to this beautiful city.
In short -It’s a great place to chill and relax……..
Piece of Advise –
If you travel with group of friends – One cabin / coupe is enough for approx 4 people.
The towel can be rented, but it’s very thin. Getting your own towel is best idea that saves time and money.
Swim cap is compulsory if you intend to use the swimmers pool. All other pool are not deep enough and completely safe for non swimmers and childrens 😀
That is so interesting! I am part Hungarian and don’t know much about the culture. Thank you :))

You brought back some good memories of this place! It is a lovely spa and I am glad you enjoyed it. Ax le Therme is also a good spa in the Mid Pyrenees (but a bit eggy initially).

Aah.. I am sure it would have been interesting too.
We also went to another spa named Gellert Spa and Thermal Bath. It was pretty fascinating from its interior design. Very beautiful. I would post about it too soon.
Keep visiting 🙂
