“On earth there is no heaven, but there are pieces of it”
It would not be any wrong to say – If anybody have to see how the heaven would look like, then you have to come to Switzerland.
The land to home of numerous beautiful lakes, villages and the high peaks of the Alps.
Each and every corner, place and city of this country is a personification of heavenly beauty.
In my current blog I would share about my journey and experience to this ecstatic place on earth –
Mount Titlis – 3238 metre!!
Our journey started from Basel city.
The journey to reach the base station of Mt.Titlis (Engelberg) from Basel (where we stayed) is in itself delightful.
Once you step down at the station and as you reach the entry point of Mt.Titlis, you could see the ropeways and the cable cars disappearing far away into the Alps.
Visiting to Switzerland in May (Spring time) makes travelling to Mt Titlis lot more comfortable as the weather is just nice coupled with beautiful greeneries around and still having snow at Mt Titlis.
One has to take 3 different cable car rides to reach the top.
The first one is a small cable car with capacity of about 6 people( but luckily it was only 4 of us ) and offers view of lush green meadows below with Swiss cows grazing merrily, the view of it is mind-blowing.
The second cable car is bigger and can carry around 30 to 40 people (it gets a little noisy).
The third and final one was the most exciting cable car called ROTAIR, since it rotates 360 degrees as it goes towards the Top of Mount Titlis.
The view while going up through the cable cars is breath taking. We get a bird’s-eye view of the whole place. I was like still and didn’t want to lose sight of such awe inspiring natural beauty.
It was no surprise for me to find lot of Indian tourist around. Switzerland is one of the most popular movie shooting locations.
The King Khan of Bollywood (ShahRukh Khan) is like the most popular guy here. The most recognized movie of Bollywood- Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ) was shot in Europe and for majority part in Switzerland.
There was this huge picture of Shahrukh and Kajol (lead pairs) from the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ). Many tourist were busy clicking selfies there. Even the Koreans and people from other countries (I am sure the most know about Bollywood and Shahrukh Khan) And I too dint miss doing that)
This mountain compared to all other mountains is covered with snow all the year.
When we reached on top it was all cloudy and we couldn’t see anything for sometime, which disappointed me but after sometime the clouds were all gone. At the top regardless of the time of year there is snow and we were lucky to have clear blue skies and the views were the best you could imagine. It’s so pristine and white with snow everywhere.
The most exciting thing about visiting Mount Titlis is that there is lot of activities to do.
The Titlis Cliff Walk – highest suspension bridge in Europe is another jaw dropper! This is a bridge made of steel cables suspended between two mountains. The length is approximate like walking 150 steps and width 1 meter. Though I was scared too but the sight of seeing some people crawling over the bridge made me laugh and lighter:-P
Glacier Cave – It’s an cave where everything is just Frozen Ice. The place is lit with turquoise blue light which makes the atmosphere more fascinating. It takes you to an entirely alien universe.
Glacier Park- for doing snow tubing
The Titlis Rotair- for 360 Degree viewing.
Ice Flyer – this is like an open cable car that sweeps through the two top points of mountain leaving us to gaze the glacier below.
It was the most incredible trip that I have taken. The scenery, people and attractions there kept us all entertained and relaxed at the same time.
What an amazing place, and the view was breathtaking.
Piece of advice-
* Excellent place in the Swiss Alps, if you have only one day in Switzerland – I would say Visit Mount Titlis.
The highest peak of Swiss which is Mount Jungfrau popularly known as Top of Europe is also very popular attraction. It is reached through the rail and hence making the place with highest railway station in Europe (3454 m). Though I personally didn’t visit Jungfrau, but with the other people whom we met during the trip said the journey with railway to the top of mountain is itself an experience. I see I have a reason to visit Switzerland again 😉
In comparison to the fun and activities stuff Mount Titlis is the winner!!
*wear warm cloths and good shoes because it’s slippery in some place.
Wonderful place.. Switzerland.. love it

The Jungfrau is pretty good! Lots of activities, sled dogs, that kind of thing… but the three cable cars also sound very exciting and I’d love to go on that suspension bridge, it sounds terrifying 🙂

That is so lovely to see Titlis again. I have been in Engelberg many times to ski as a teenager in the lat 70’s. Mount Titlis has changed, at that time it was the cable cars up and that was it. It was still beautiful then but now there is really loads to do. We used to stay in a hotel just were you are standing opposite the garages in the first photo ( with the Hahnenkamm mountain at the back). It gives me great memories back. Thank you.
